Big Feelings: Understanding Anger
For children aged 5-8 years old and a parent/caregiver.
Service Description
The next session is: Wednesday 27th May 10-11 am at Little Piggies Cafe, 39 Bedford Street, Bognor Regis, PO21 1SH When big feelings turn into meltdowns, it can feel overwhelming for both children and parents. You might see your child: • shouting, hitting, or lashing out • becoming quickly frustrated or overwhelmed • struggling to calm down once upset • saying things they don’t mean in the moment And as a parent, you might be wondering: 👉 “What do I actually do in those moments?” 👉 “How can I help without making things worse?” 👉 “Why is this happening?” You’re not alone and there is a way to understand and support this. What this workshop is about This workshop is designed to help both you and your child understand what’s really happening underneath anger and big emotional outbursts. Rather than focusing on stopping behaviour, we focus on: • understanding emotions • recognising what the body is telling us • building regulation skills • responding in a way that supports long-term emotional development This is a supportive, non-judgmental space where both parents and children can learn together. What we’ll explore During the session, we will: • understand anger and why it shows up • help children recognise and name their emotions • explore how big feelings feel in the body • practise simple ways to calm and regulate • introduce safe and healthy ways to express anger • support parents with what to do in the moment What you’ll leave with You and your child will leave with: • a better understanding of anger and emotional outbursts • practical tools you can use at home • more confidence in responding to big feelings • a shared language you can use together • strategies to support calmer, more connected moments As part of the workshop, parents will also receive a copy of my parent guide on supporting children with big feelings, which will help you to: - Better understand what’s going on underneath your child’s emotions - Respond in ways that support emotional regulation and confidence - Feel more assured in how you handle worry when it shows up at home - Continue supporting your child long after the workshop ends The guide is practical, clear, and designed to support parents in a way that works for your family.
